A relative was hit while crossing the street and the insurance company is already pushing a low number, so I am trying to understand how these free consultation offers actually work. Do you treat them as real legal guidance or just as an intake call that leads to a referral? I found one page that lists construction, commercial vehicle and pedestrian cases as separate practice areas, and the details on referrals are described in this link, which made me wonder how much a firm should explain upfront about fees and who ends up handling the file. I am also unsure what counts as a fair timeline for a first response. For now I am comparing a few options and reading the terms carefully.
